Players new to hockey

MPHC focuses on providing all junior players new to hockey the best opportunity to learn about the game and develop their skills for future participation in formal competition. Our aim is to provide a fun, engaging and safe environment to start their hockey journey, with a number of options available to suit all levels of experience.

Hookin2Hockey: It is recommended new players begin with a program of Hookin2Hockey to grasp the basics of the game. Participants will then either move to the Minkey program, to the U10 ½ field competition team or to an appropriate U12–U16 competition team.

Players with prior hockey experience

For those new players with prior hockey experience, there are a number of options for joining.

Preseason training: For the U10, U12, U14 and U16 teams starts early to  mid March. (see update here)

Practice Games: The U12, U14 and U16 teams will have two practice games against each other during March and April. These games and performance and attendance at preseason training are used for team selections (where required).

Although it is preferred that new players join at the start of the season, juniors are welcome to join MPHC at any time during the season provided we have vacancies in the program or team.
